Eli's First Birthday

My sweet baby boy turned ONE on November 17th! I cannot believe that Eli is already a year old. The past year has flown by so quickly. I have loved being a mom! Especially to Eli who is so happy, loving, and fun. He makes me want to be a better person every day.

This last year has been the best and most demanding of my life. Being a mom is the most rewarding calling ever, however there are days when I feel inadequate and it is hard. Being a mom has made me realize and understand more why the family is the center of God's plan.

I love Eli and I am so happy that Heavenly Father sent him to Nathan and me!!!

At a year old, Eli:
*Loves to walk!!!!! (He learned two days before his birthday)
*Scream when he doesn't get his way
*Play Peek-A-Boo
*Play Patty Cake
*Eat string cheese
*Get into all of the cupboards possible
*Look out the window
*Play with his balls
*Drink juice
*Eat any kind of sweets!
*Play with daddy's homework ;)
*In size 4 diapers
*Weighs 20.5 pounds and is 31 inches long

Below is a picture overload!!
We had a party for Eli the night of his birthday over at Grandma & Grandpa Johnson's house. We had both of our families there and a few friends. It was a lot of fun, and we were very supported. Thanks to all who came!

Halloween Festivities!

These past few weeks have been so much fun planning, preparing, and enjoying Halloween festivities!

On Tuesday, I made caramel popcorn for the first time ever! I made it as a treat for my Webelos, and I think it turned out really good! I got the caramel recipe from my friend Cassie, and, thankfully, it was an easy recipe to follow. ha.

I put candy corn in it!
We were invited to go to a Mystery Dinner Party by some friend's in our ward. I was beyond thrilled and excited to go! I have always wanted to participate in a "real life" game of clue :-). We got our invitation in the mail last week, and were assigned characters for the game. I was a baker named "Miss Sugga Flower" and Nathan was a sheriff named "Deputy C.R. Badges". The funniest character I thought was "Cougar Forest" which was another way of saying Tiger Woods. haha. All of the characters' names were really cute though. The dinner was on Wednesday, October 29th, and there were 7 couples there, so 14 people total! We had a really yummy dinner consisting of Chicken Cordon Bleu, salad, fruit, potatoes, rolls, and then I provided "Dirt dessert" for the dessert. It was the first time I made it, and I was pleased with how it turned out. Through out the evening we were given pieces of paper with clues that we could share with the other guests, and also clues that we could keep to ourselves. Playing the game was more difficult than I thought it would be, but I think that was because it was a first time for all of us. The end was a big surprise for all of us! None of us guessed who the murder was, but I did get the room and the weapon right! ;-) I had a ton of fun and hope to do it again next year.
The handsome deputy and the baker!

I got a brilliant idea for our Halloween costumes from a friend, and planned our costumes weeks in advance, and worked on them the week before Halloween. We were Tangled characters! I was Rapunzel, Nathan was Flynn Rider, and Eli was Pascal (the Chameleon). I went to the DI and bought my purple dress and Nathan's tan shirt. Then Nancy and I sewed his brown vest, and Nathan and I spent an HOUR AND A HALF making my braid! haha (Click HERE to see the blog where I got my braid idea) It was a lot of fun though, but I am glad we only had to make one ;). After we finished I put a few fake flowers throughout the braid. I thought it turned out cute!

Also, for the past few weeks Nancy has been working on making all of her grandkids their own Halloween Trick-or-Treating bag! I think they all turned out so cute!!! I really like Eli's Frankenstein one. Thank you Nancy for the cute bag!

On Halloween I went up to Rexburg with my mom to get the oil in her car changed so we decided we would take Eli over to his doctor's office, Seasons Medical, to trick or treat. Nathan met us over there after he got out of class. Of course Eli didn't care, but I wanted to show off my cute boy in his costume! I just told the people passing out candy that he didn't need very much. haha. I just wore my baker's outfit because I didn't want to wear my Rapunzel outfit until later.

Then Eli and I went with Nathan into Idaho Falls to run a few errands. It took longer than expected so we got home around 6:00, changed into our costumes, and headed out for trick-or-treating. We stopped at Sharon and Stan Linville's very first so I could get my caramel apple! (I've been going since I was a little girl). Then we stopped at my parent's house, took a few pictures, visited for a little bit, and headed off again. We stopped by a few people in our ward, and then ended the night at Grandma and Grandpa Adamson's home for a Halloween party. We had dinner and then there were games, but we took off after dinner because it was past Eli's bedtime :-). Overall, it was a great first Halloween! I am excited for Eli to get more excited for holidays as he gets older and understands.

Didn't like being put in his car seat in his costume!

Month of October

I haven't done as good as I have wanted to with updating my blog, but my goal is to blog at least once a week from here on out! The first reason is because it is a good way to journal about my life, and secondly, because I want my grandma- who is on a mission- to be able to know what is going on in my family's life without having to bother her too much with phone calls and such.

The month of October has been really good! We have had a lot of fun things going on, and been keeping busy with school (Nathan), church callings, family stuff, and trying to keep up with my house!

As members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, we get together every six months via television, radio, internet, or go to Salt lake to hear General conference! General Conference is where the prophet, apostles, and leaders of the church give us guidance and direction from the Lord. I guess you could consider it a "super bowl" weekend for the Mormons ;-). I love General Conference! I love hearing the words of our living prophet, Thomas S. Monson, and  from the other leaders of the church.

This year I made a goal to read all of the talks from April's General Conference before Conference started in October. I finished the day before conference started! I know that by reading all of the talks, my testimony was strengthened, and I was prepared and ready to have the Spirit with me when General Conference started.

Listening to General Conference was a little difficult with a mobile baby, but I still really enjoyed it and received a lot of personal revelation from the talks. Below are some of my favorite quotes from conference:

"I know that although I may not be my brother’s keeper, I am my brother’s brother, and “because I have been given much, I too must give.”" Elder Jeffrey R. Holland

"No matter what your current status, the very moment you voluntarily choose honest, joyful, daily repentance by striving to simply do and be your very best, the Savior’s Atonement envelops and follows you, as it were, wherever you go." Elder Jorg Klebingat

“Women who make a house a home make a far greater contribution to society than those who command large armies or stand at the head of impressive corporations. Who can put a price tag on the influence a mother has on her children, a grandmother on her posterity, or aunts and sisters on their extended family? We cannot begin to measure or calculate the influence of women who, in their own ways, build stable family life and nurture for everlasting good the generations of the future. The decisions made by the women of this generation will be eternal in their consequences. May I suggest that the mothers of today have no greater opportunity and no more serious challenge than to do all they can to strengthen the [home]” President Gordon B. Hinckley quoted by Elder L. Tom Perry

Then the following weekend was Brittany's baby shower! On Thursday my mom got a phone call from Kindy saying that Brittany had preclampsia and was going to be induced the next day! (the day before her baby shower) However, the baby shower was still going to happen, so mom, Eli, and I left for Utah on Friday afternoon. I had a really great time visiting my family! We stayed with Cyd Friday night, went shopping on Saturday morning, and went to Kindy's to help set up for the baby shower. Then that night mom and I stayed with Grandma Woods at her home in Orem. It was fun getting to see her new home, and be able to see her one last time before she left on her mission the next Thursday. Sunday morning we went to church and then we were able to go see Brittany and her new baby, Carston, at the hospital before we headed home! He is a cutie!

Cute little Carston!

Last picture with my grandma before her mission

The 13th of October, we got to go with the Johnsons to pick out pumpkins to carve! It was the first time I have been to a pumpkin patch! Nathan met us at the patch after school and we had a lot of fun picking out our  "perfect" pumpkin. I plan to make it a family tradition for years to come.

My two handsome boys!

A couple days later, October 15th, Daniel, Susie, & lil' Scotty came to visit!! I always have a good time when they come, and am excited that they might be moving back in January!!!! :-) I know that Eli and Scott are going to be the best of buds as they grow older.

The day after they came, our ward had a Super "Thursday" activity. Nancy, Susie, and I all got to go and participate. Susie and I made crafts and tried to keep up with our babies while Nancy was in charge of helping out ladies with one of the crafts. I signed up for two different crafts, and am SO GLAD I didn't sign up for any more! haha.. I barely finished the ones I signed up for. I am really pleased with how they turned out and am excited to use them in my home!

Nativity I made!

"Welcome post"! I think it turned out really cute!

My mom's birthday was October 19th (she turned 29... again! ;)), so Cydnee and Austin came up on Thursday to celebrate the weekend with her. Also, Morgan and Rayse surprised her by coming up as well! Nathan came home on Thursday and asked if they were coming. I had no idea! I guess Nathan saw Ben at school and he was the one that spilled the beans to us! I was really happy to have all of the family there for the weekend. We always have a good time when we get together. and I hope my mom had an awesome birthday because she most definitely deserves it!

On October 20th, we went over to the Johnson's' for FHE to carve the pumpkins we picked out. Nathan was too busy with homework to carve his, but I had a good time carving mine! We didn't really carve pumpkins growing up, so I really enjoy doing it, and hope to continue this tradition as well.

Lastly for the month of October, because I want to talk about Halloween festivities in its own posting, I just have to brag about my sweetheart. He is so wonderful and I am very lucky to be his wife! This semester has been his busiest one yet! He never ceases to amaze me! He is doing very well in his classes, and still finds time for Eli and me. However, this semester has been hard on me with him being gone so much. I have felt inadequate as a wife and a mom because I tend to get grouchy when I don't get to be with Nathan as much as I like. But Nathan lovingly reminds me what a good wife and mom I am constantly. Last week he surprised me with flowers and a caramel apple from the Caramel Tree (which if you have never been, you are missing out!!!) just to let me know he loves me. How did I get so lucky? Man I love that man.

Eli is 11 Months!

My baby boy turned 11 months old last Friday! He is so fun and brings Nathan and me so much joy and happiness. He is a little busy body! But he keeps me entertained and going :-)

At 11 months Eli:

*Has 3 teeth!
*Is scared of hats! (weird I know)
*Weighs almost as much as cousin Weston
*loves both sets of grandparents
*plays with a basketball already! (Hopefully an All-star in the making ;-)
*STILL wakes up mom about twice a night
*is finally starting to like bananas!
*Growing out of size 3 diapers! (We will be buying size 4 in a couple days)
*Wearing 6-9 month old clothes, but will probably move up a size in the next couple weeks!

Book Club: Month #4

We had our book club for the month of September today, and this month we read Divergent! If you haven't read it, it is really good! (And it's the first book in a series!)

We had it at Cassie's house today, and it was so good to get together with all of my friends- besides one who was out of town- and chat and let our kids play.

It's hard to explain this book because I don't want to give away any details, so below is a summary of the book:
"In a world divided by factions based on virtues, Tris learns she's Divergent and won't fit in. When she discovers a plot to destroy Divergents, Tris and the mysterious Four must find out what makes Divergents dangerous before it's too late."

Anyway, I actually watched the movie first, and am so glad that I read the book still! The book has a lot of details that the movie doesn't cover very well. I enjoyed the movie, but the book is a must read! :)

Busy, Busy, Busy

I haven't had a lot of time to post this last month! I have been so busy trying to keep up with Eli, my house, harvest time on the farm, canning, PLUS Nathan and I tried to play as much as we could before he went back to school on the 15th!

I love this time of year! I love seeing the harvest come out of the garden, and I love spending time with my mom, mother-in-law, and Grandmas canning. It's always so much more fun canning with someone else. I thought canning was hard before having a kid... well, it is 10x harder now! haha. Here are some pictures of our success this year! :-)
